FAQ
How is Renewal Gynecology different from general gynecologic care?
Renewal Gynecology is a specialized practice focused on cosmetic gynecology, regenerative sexual wellness, and hormone optimization. This practice offers a growing specialty that is not readily available in Northern California or Southern Oregon.
Renewal Gynecology exists to offer services that require more time, privacy, and depth than are typically possible in an insurance-based clinic setting. This separation allows us to provide high-quality care in both spaces without compromise.
Do you provide Pap smears, birth control, or routine exams at Renewal Gynecology?
No. General gynecologic services (such as Pap smears, STI testing, and treatment of conditions such as endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS) are provided through Open Door Community Health Centers in Arcata, CA. We do not provide prenatal care or obstetric services.
Renewal Gynecology focuses on:
-
Cosmetic and functional gynecology: labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, perineoplasty, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation
-
Regenerative therapies (PRP, nanofat): sexual function, labial plumping, tissue remodeling
-
Postpartum and menopausal tissue restoration
-
Hormone optimization
-
Procedures and consultations that require extended visits
If you are unsure which setting is appropriate for your needs, we are happy to help guide you.
Is cosmetic gynecology just about appearance?
No. While aesthetics can be part of the conversation, most women seek care because of physical discomfort, sexual concerns, or changes related to childbirth, menopause, or aging.
Cosmetic gynecology often overlaps with:
-
pain reduction
-
improved comfort
-
improved sexual function
-
tissue health and integrity
Our approach always prioritizes function first, with aesthetics as a secondary consideration if desired.
What is PRP and how is it used in gynecology?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is created from your own blood and contains concentrated growth factors that support tissue healing and regeneration.
In gynecology, PRP may be used to support:
-
lubrication
-
arousal and sensitivity
-
orgasmic function
-
mild urinary symptoms
-
overall vulvar and vaginal tissue health
PRP is a natural, autologous treatment with minimal downtime. It is not a miracle cure, but for the right patient it can be a meaningful, restorative therapy.
What is nanofat therapy?
Nanofat therapy uses a small amount of your own fat, processed into a regenerative form rich in cellular signaling factors.
It may be used to:
-
improve vulvar skin quality
-
restore labia majora fullness
-
soften scar tissue
-
support tissue health after menopause or childbirth
Nanofat can be used alone or combined with PRP for enhanced regenerative effects.
Do you take insurance?
No. Renewal Gynecology is a cash-pay practice.
This model allows us to:
-
spend more time with each patient
-
provide transparent pricing
-
offer services not covered by insurance
-
avoid rushed visits and billing constraints
We believe this model allows for better care in this highly personal area of women’s health.
We do however offer financing through our partners with Cherry and CareCredit.
We also offer telehealth care for initial consultations, to avoid the need to travel prior to procedure.
Why did you choose a cash-pay model?
Many services we offer—such as cosmetic gynecology (labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, RF/CO2 Laser treatments etc), PRP, nanofat, and extended consultations—are not covered by insurance.
A cash-pay model allows:
-
longer, unrushed visits
-
privacy and discretion
-
clear expectations around cost
-
care guided by clinical judgment rather than insurance rules
Routine gynecologic care remains available through our local community health center.
Yes, we are taking new patients.
Will I feel pressured to have a procedure?
No.
Your first visit is focused on understanding your concerns and educating you about options. Many patients choose to take time before deciding—or choose conservative management instead.
Our role is to inform and guide, not persuade.
Is an exam required at the first visit?
Not always.
An exam is only performed if it is helpful and with your consent. We explain what we are doing, why it matters, and move at a pace that feels comfortable to you.
This may also include a telehealth visit to be avoid traveling from out of the area before your procedure.
Who is a good candidate for Renewal Gynecology services?
Women who may benefit include those who:
-
experience discomfort or pain with intimacy
-
have postpartum or menopausal tissue changes
-
feel dismissed or rushed in traditional settings
-
are curious about regenerative options
-
want thoughtful, conservative cosmetic care
If you’re unsure, a consultation can help clarify whether our services are right for you.
